Message from Beyond ?
I never envisaged adding to this blog, but something odd happened the other day for which I have no explanation.
Since Anita died, her brother has taken to phoning me once a week for a chat (and to see that I’m O.K.)
Last couple of weeks he hasn’t phoned.
I didn’t think much of it – just assumed he and his family had gone off on holiday.
Then he phoned Friday night to apologise for not being in touch for a couple of weeks and to tell a strange tale . . .
According to him, I had phoned him during the day, but when he had picked up the call there was no-one there. All he could hear was a low rumble of voices of folk speaking in the background. He had tried shouting ‘hello’ but there was no response. This happened 3 times.
I assured him I had not called him. In fact, I had not been anywhere near my mobile during the day – it was in the pocket of my jacket which had been hanging up while I was at work.
The question is – how had my mobile phone (not once, but 3 times), of it’s own accord, selected the address book icon from the main menu page, scrolled down through the list of numbers until it ‘found’ Mick’s number, and then dialled it? And why choose to ring Mick?
To my brother-in-law, there is no mystery here. The answer is obvious. His sister has used my mobile to reprimand him for not phoning me and to send a message to us both that there is something beyond the grave and that she is watching over us.
[He reminded me of the strange behaviour of his dad's radio that we brought into our house after his death - http://tinyurl.com/379pfwv - in support of his argument]
I needn’t tell you how much I want to believe that, but a lifetime’s skepticism about an afterlife can’t be shifted so easily just because I want to be reunited with Anita in the future – but I can’t think of any other explanation for those phone calls ?

Well, if it had been accidentally called once the second two could easily result by accidental pressure on the phone. I’ve done that before and had people call me later to ask about it.
Is Anita trying to get with you? Hard to say, I do believe that our loved ones are watching over us and present in some way.
My first thought was accidental pressure too but . . .
although I have Mick’s number in my mobile I rarely call him. In fact the last time I called him using my mobile was Jan 2nd to let him know his sister wasn’t going to last more than a few hours.
My phone was in the pocket of my jacket which was hanging up so hard to see how accidental pressure could have arisen. I actually counted how many ‘keystrokes’ would have to accidentally happen in order to phone Mic -
1 press to access Menu
2 key presses to navigate to Contact icon
1 key press to open contact menu
1 key press to select names option
23 key presses to scroll down and select Mick from the list
1 key press to call his number
That’s almost 30 accidental key presses that would need to be made !!!
Although my jacket was hanging up, it was visible from where I sat and I didn’t see anyone go near it who might perhaps have been messing with my phone. And although I wasn’t at my desk the whole day, other people in the office would have noticed if anyone had been fiddling with my jacket
By instinct and training, I am inclined to look for a ‘normal’ explanation of these phone calls – but given the number of key presses required, I think accidental pressure can be ruled out.
The open plan nature of my office and the location of the coat-stand makes it difficult for anyone to extract my phone from my jacket pocket and use it to call my brother in law as a prank.
So I’m kinda forced to consider some kind of supernatural explanation ?
And this is where I hesitate
It would be so easy to let my heart rule my head but I can’t quite take that step – as much as I would like to believe Mick is right in thinking this is a message from Anita !
I was just going through my Google Reader to clean it up when I ran across this post. How unusual!! I’d like to believe it was Anita as well. It’s much easier to believe that, than to think of all the unreasonable explanations that would defy it.
