Mrs D gets excited

‘Look!’ said Mrs D, her voice quivering with excitement. She had spotted a man. Not just any man, mind. This particular man was climbing up a fire escape at the rear of the building we were passing. I caught a brief glimpse as he slipped through a door on the second floor. What had got Mrs D so excited was his clothing – dressed all in white, with a bandana round his head.

Thoughts of a chicken jalfrezi washed down with a bottle of Merlot momentarily banished by the sight of the mysterious ‘man in white’, Mrs D grabbed my arm –

‘Quick. Let’s have a look!‘

At the front of the building, a pool of yellow light spilled onto the pavement. Peering through the window, Mrs D made out some shadowy shapes.

‘There’s people in there’, she whispered.

She cautiously tested the front door – It was open! As she poked her head through the gap, four men all dressed alike in black, pounced on her.

‘Good evening, madam!‘

‘Er, hello. I was just wondering. Are you open? Only we saw your chef out the back‘

The event we had been eagerly awaiting since October last year had finally arrived. The building next to our local had been converted to an Indian Restaurant. Curry Night at the pub was forgotten as Mrs D dragged me inside. They made us especially welcome as we were their very first customers!

They were not officially open for another month – but were now trying out public reaction to their Menu. Mrs D and I did our best to help them out !!!

The food was delicious and we ordered more than we could eat. It wasn’t wasted though. What we couldn’t manage we took back for the dogs – Wee Rab absolutely loved his Prawn Rogan Josh. It was his first taste of a balti.

The same type of thing happened to us a few years ago. We even received the entire meal free of charge. We just happened to be in the right place at the right time. (If only that would happen more often!)

As their very first customers, we were given a 25% discount off all meals ordered there for the following 6 months 😆
