Forgot, didn’t I

15th Apr 2007

Sunday morning promised to be a fine day. The weather forecasters predicted it would be the hottest day so far lighteningboltand for once it looked like they might be right. There was no warning of storm clouds ahead. The first hint of trouble brewing came when I brought Mrs D her early morning cuppa in bed.

‘What’s the plan for today, then?,’ she asked.

‘Nothing much.’ I replied. ‘Just dossing around‘

‘Nothing special, then?‘ she enquired.

There was something in the way that last sentence was delivered that sent a shiver of fear down my spine – some inflection in her voice, perhaps – that started alarm bells ringing. When you’ve been married as long as we have – 18 years – you learn to spot subtle clues/nuances of voice and behaviour that signal danger . . .

‘Bloody Hell! Eighteen years. What date was it?’

‘Shit, shit , shit ….bloody f*cken shit !!!

valendar2A quick check of the calendar Mrs D keeps in the kitchen confirmed my fears. She had drawn a circle round Sunday, 15th April. In addition, she had used a yellow highlighter pen to further mark this date as being different from the rest of the month.

‘ Bloody hell!’ How had I missed seeing that?

There was some writing also. Inside the little square box for 15th April, Mrs D had written ‘WA’ in capital letters – underlined, and with exclamation marks. An arrow led from there to a series of comments written down the side of the calendar – each comment linked to the preceding one with an arrow drawn with that same bright yellow highlighter.
‘WA means wedding anniversary, moron!‘
‘Don’t you dare forget!‘
‘I’m warning you‘
‘You forgot, didn’t you?‘

You just gotta love the way Mrs D operates …. better than an FBI Agent doing interrogation …..

No room to ‘pretend’ you’ve organised ‘something secret’ …. 😆

If you lived here in the States, April 15th, is NEVER forgotten, but for an entirely different reason – TAX DAY!
