Good and Bad News

October 14, 2009

21st Jun 2007

Surgeon_Working_on_a_Patient250Late cancellation meant a slot became available and Mrs D’s op was brought forward a week. She was admitted to hospital day before yesterday and had the op on her left lung in the afternoon.

The Bad News

What we hoped was scar tissue on her left lung from TB infection as a child turned out to be cancer.

The Good News

The cancer in her left lung was not related to the tumour we already knew about in her right lung so the doctors were able to operate – they removed the lower half of her left lung.

Once she’s recovered from this op she’ll have to go through it all over again when they remove the top third of her right lung.

She’s in a lot of post-op pain and is in the High Dependency Unit (Didn’t we use to call it ‘intensive care’?) but is feeling much more positive about the future now than she was before the op.

Even though I might not be leaving comments on most of these posts (odd, huh!), I am reading them. My heart goes out to you both.
