The March of Time

February 15, 2010

Thursday today – 30th July, 2009′

That was Mrs D’s first words to me this morning (at around 3 am)

It’s a ritual she goes through every morning on awakening – telling me the day of the week and the date.

It’s her way of testing her cognitive processes – an early warning sign of any decline as a result of the brain tumour.

It’s also a way of ‘keeping score’.

We are both very conscious of the passing of time now and how little we have left together.

Each morning that Mrs D can awake and tell me the day of the week, and the date, is like a ‘little victory’ over the cancer.

It’s a simple thing she does, but it breaks me up inside when she does it.

No, there came a time when she didn’t know what day it was, never mind the date 😦
